The next planned development of the site includes upgrading the
drier for 2010 and 2 x 3500 tonne silos and a 2000 tonne flat
store for 2011. This increase in capacity of 9000 tonnes would
bring the total store capacity to near 70000 tonnes.
The grant application will be submitted to SEEDA in February
2010 for a panel decision in April. This will give sufficient
time to upgrade the drier for 2010 harvest.
Looking further forward although we have planning permission for
raising existing silos to add approx 9000 tonnes capacity the
very high cost makes it questionable economically. An
alternative of 6 x 3500 tonnes silos to the south within our
existing site is being considered. However, such an increase in
tonnage would necessitate extra processing capacity and would
need to be part of a further phased expansion. Subject to demand
it is a few years away.
However directors have raised the question of what is the ideal
size store and should further expansion even be considered. An
extended site into the woodland could eventually accommodate up
to 150000 tonnes but raises serious planning, access and other
issues.
For these reasons a possible local satellite site will be
researched.
Could any members with potential sites within 5 miles of the
store, min 2 hectares, please contact the store.
